I’m Patricia Rose and I’m happy you’re here!

Orchestral string instruments are rich, expressive, and powerful, teeming with centuries of tradition and benefits to our collective wellbeing. As a professional string musician, I feel it’s my responsibility to impart these skills and traditions to our coming generations. I’ve been playing cello for over 23 years and my journey with “classical” music has been anything but ordinary; our culture is rapidly transforming, yet the traditional approach to classical music has remained stagnant. As we navigate a landscape of constant change, we too as musicians should strive to expand beyond the reaches of convention. Learning an instrument and all aspects of music should be accessible, fun, and inspiring. I vow to impress upon my students and peers the importance of adaptation, evolution, and the musical determination to thrive!

My Education & Background

I started studying cello at age 10, began viola lessons at age 14, then within the following year was playing the violin as well. I moved to Salisbury, Maryland in 2010 to attend Salisbury University where I earned a Bachelor’s in Arts in Music, studying cello under Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen. Ultimately, my passion and curiosity drove me toward music theory and composition where I spent an equal amount of effort, attention, and dedication. Under the tutelage of Dr. Jerry Tabor, I was able to embrace my most authentic expression and understanding of music and the holistic sonic experience. I’m proud to have had the privilege to play, learn, and collaborate with such a plenitude of esteemed musicians and composers during my studies at SU, all of which drastically shaped the musician and artist I am today.

I’m a seasoned community member of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra. I have played for several musicals and summer programs across the state of Maryland, including Southern Maryland’s Summerstock program and I am currently a consistent player for the Salisbury Community Players. I am the founding member of the Salisbury String Trio which performs versatile events including weddings, corporate events, and private parties. I’ve been a featured performer in the WorWic Community Artisan Showcase. I find joy and stability in freelance performance work all over the Eastern Shore and am glad to open my doors and services to the greater Salisbury community!

I am an active member of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) which aims to empower teachers like me to provide universal access to string teaching, playing, and learning.

My Philosophy

Strong foundations prompt sustainable progress!
I believe balancing pedagogical technique with fun, engaging music fosters continuous passion and learning. Each student’s goals and interests should ultimately guide the landscape of learning. Lessons are always tailored to each individual student’s needs and I encourage students to discover music on their own in hopes of incorporating students’ unique interests into our lesson curriculum.

Please see my studio policy here for more details on lessons curriculum/requirements

The backbone of music is community!
Playing in ensembles, especially small ensembles like duets, trios, and small chamber groups, is essential to truly learning music. Working in groups fosters communication and respect through teamwork as well as providing a social outlet for peers to share passion!

You’re never too old to start playing or relearn a bowed string instrument!
Adults are great learners and here are a few reasons why:

  • Adults have years of exposure to music; so what does that mean?
    • A more discerning ear and a better capacity for intonation, thanks to those years of listening!
  • Adults have fully developed minds
    • Better concentration
    • Higher capacity for memorization (linked to strength and stamina below)
    • The ability to multitask!
  • Adults are physically stronger, so good posture comes faster!

With all of these reasons in mind, imagine the benefits to your adult/elder longevity if you continue to exercise these qualities by playing a string instrument?!
